Many of these releases are from my favorite authors and series I’m anxious to continue. While others are new to me authors that I’m intrigued by and excited to experience their work. All The Water in the World by Eiren Caffall
I want to start the year off strong by diving into the Sci-Fi genre as I didn’t enjoy as many books from this genre in 2024. And this book sounds interesting. This book is a post-apocalyptic novel set after the glaciers have melted causing floods. We see how this new reality impacts a family in New York City that’s trying to adapt to this new reality and the different communities they encounter.

Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor
Next up is another Sci-Fi novel following Zelu who finds herself at a crossroads in her life and unsure which direction to go. She decides to start writing a book about a world devoid of humanity run by Androids and AI. This decision will alter the trajectory of her life forever. I enjoy books about books and I’m eager to give this one a read.

I Am Not Jessica Chen by Ann Liang
I fell in love with Ann Liang’s writing style after reading A Song To Drown Rivers. I’m thrilled to read another book by her and this story is giving me Freaky Friday vibes. We see Jenna Chen who’s struggling under the weight of rejection after being denied entry by every Ivy League school she’s applied to. Feeling burdened by her parent’s disappointment she makes a wish to be more like her cousin Jessica Chen who’s Harvard-bound and seemingly perfect. To her surprise, her wish is granted and she wakes up inside Jessica’s body. As she unravels the secrets regarding Jessica’s life she realizes that Jessica is not what she seemed. Now she has to decide between being the perfect daughter and student or accepting herself flaws and all.

This Book Will Bury Me by Ashley Winstead
While I didn’t have the best time reading In My Dreams I Hold A Knife I’m excited to give this author another shot. In her new release, we follow Jane Sharp as she uncovers her interest in True Crime following the death of her father. However, when a real-life crime involving three college students leads to Jane and her group of amateur sleuths trying to dissect fact from fiction leading to unexpected consequences. Sounds like a twisty read!

My Friends by Fredrik Backman
I recently read Beartown and have fallen in love with Backman’s poignant, emotionally complex writing style and I’m eager to experience more of his writing. In this novel, we follow artist Louisa as she becomes intrigued by a painting she was bequeathed and begins to explore how it came to be. This leads her to learn about the artist who captures his three friends creating a stunning painting. I just know this is going to explore friendship dynamics and contain so many interesting themes and topics. Can’t wait.

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I’m super excited that 2025 is the year we get another novel from the queen herself. I love how heartfelt her stories are as they explore unique topics providing a fresh and emotional take. In Atmosphere, we follow Joan Goodwin professor of physics and astronomy as she is selected to make her wildest dreams of becoming an astronaut a reality confronting the truth about herself and the world around her. I believe this is going to be a story of self-discovery with impactful female friendships and an insightful look into the world of physics and astronomy during a time when men dominated this field and the struggles experienced by these women astronauts. Can’t wait!

Bury Our Bones in Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab
I only want to read this book because the title is so beautiful! Currently, I have The Invisible Life of Addie Larue but have yet to read it. But, still, this title sounds so promising and I’m excited to give it and this author a try. This is a sapphic vampire story following three vampires and spanning generations. Two of my favorite story elements. Looking forward to reading this one.
With A Vengeance by Riley Sager
The premise for this new release from Riley Sager sounds quite interesting and I like that it includes elements of a closed-door mystery and takes place on a train. We follow Anna Matheson as she works to enact her revenge following the destruction of her family by six individuals. Unfortunately, her plan goes up in smoke when a murder occurs forcing Anna to protect the six criminals and go after the murder. Sounds quite interesting let’s see how Sager manages this.

The Poppy Fields by Nikki Erlick
I was so moved by Erlick’s thought-provoking debut novel The Measure and it’s one of my favorite books of all time and made my 2024 list of favorite books. So, I’m beyond excited that she’s releasing her sophomore novel this year. In this story, we learn of the research center named the Poppy Fields providing an experimental and controversial treatment that allows those suffering from heartache and loss to sleep through their pain. Once awakened they’ll be healed of their affliction. But as with all good things participants must beware of the side effects. I’m so excited to read and add this book to my collection!

Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell
While Lisa Jewell can be hit or miss for me I still find myself excited about reading her upcoming release. After the shocking death of her husband Nina and her daughter Ash are reeling. However, after a letter and package from Paddy’s friend Nick Ratcliffe containing an old lighter of Paddy’s Ash becomes drawn to Nick developing a close relationship. Meanwhile, Martha is struggling to maintain her household with a baby, two children, and a husband who’s traveling for work often. The lives of these two women will intersect as they struggle with the truth that Nick and Al are not the men they claim to be. Ready to see what she does with this story.

The Possession of Alba Díaz by Isabel Cañas
Cañas became my favorite new author of 2024 and I’m so eager to read her new release because I’m a tremendous fan of her prose and writing style. Plus I love that she creates genre-bending books that include elements of horror, historical fiction, and romantic subplots filled with longing and angst. In this story we follow Alba and her family as they flee from the plague sweeping through their town as they hide out in her fiancé Carlos’s family’s mine. However, Alba is plagued with hallucinations, sleepwalking, and violent convulsions. And while Elías is trying to avoid his cousin’s betrothed he can’t help but notice her condition and how it’s worsening. He also can’t deny the tension the tension that exists between them. Can he help save Alba before it’s too late? This sounds so so good.

I started the Shards of Magic series last November and was immediately HOOKED. I’m on pins and needles waiting for this release so I can find out what happens to Kenna following the events of the last book. I must know if my predictions were right and see how this story unfolds. Super excited about this one!
